Technical Crew
Description
Two groups of young men provide technical support for pageant productions. The earlier setup crew helps set up the stage, the fairgrounds, and the entire pageant site in preparation for the pageants. The later crew strikes the stage (prepares it for offseason storage) and helps clean up the pageant site. Members of both crews support rehearsals and performances. They move manual lifts and set pieces and complete other tasks as directed by the stage managers and technical directors. They help care for the Nauvoo Performances Center by setting up and taking down chairs for sacrament and company meetings and perform other service as needed.
Each young man serves for approximately 3.5 weeks, either on the setup crew or the strike crew. Workdays are long, often 12 to 16 hours.
Single young men ages 17 through 23 make up each crew. Those under 18 need signed permission from a parent or guardian to volunteer.
A married couple volunteers as the tech crew supervisors to care for the young men in the crew. There is no age requirement, but an appropriate level of maturity and experience working with young people is expected from these supervisors.
This is a volunteer position. The Nauvoo Performances program provides meals and housing and reimburses up to $400 of travel expenses.
Accepted tech crew members must be medically certified to be in excellent physical condition to withstand the strain of long workdays (12 to 16 hours) outdoors in heat and high humidity. Accepted tech crew members will also need to provide proof of primary insurance coverage.
Crew members are expected to be preparing for or already returned from full-time missionary service. Bishops only endorse applicants who conduct themselves as disciples of Jesus Christ and are willing to grow spiritually through daily devotionals, personal and group gospel study, and temple service. Crew members are expected to abide bymissionary standards in their personal grooming, in media consumption, and in their personal interactions with pageant participants, guests, and local residents.
