Description

The core cast consists of 24 actors who represent major characters in both pageants, including historical figures such as Joseph Smith, Emma Smith, and Parley P. Pratt. The core cast need not be professional actors, but they are all expected to have professional-quality acting skills. They perform each night for the run of the pageants. They also present short dramatic vignettes during the day showcasing events related to the history of Nauvoo. A few times each season, they perform a musical outreach production, “Our Story Goes On.”

Schedule

Auditions to serve in the core cast are typically held in January in Bountiful, Utah, and Provo, Utah. Video auditions may be accepted for those not able to attend in person. Please email nauvooperformances@churchofjesuschrist.org for further information.

Those planning to audition for the core cast but, if not selected, would like to participate in the family cast, should also submit a family cast application. Those applications close prior to January, when core cast auditions are held. If you have applied for the core cast, your family cast application will not be processed until after core cast assignments have been made.

Stage rehearsals and song practices begin in the spring and culminate with a required workshop in Salt Lake City in June. The workshop is held all day for two weeks. Following the workshop, performers work full-time in rehearsals and performances in Nauvoo from the end of June to the final performance of the pageant at the beginning of August. The core cast’s full-time commitment is 8 weeks.

Age Requirements

Roles for both men and women range in age from early 20’s to late 50’s.

Finances

The Nauvoo Performances program covers transportation costs to and from Nauvoo as well as housing and meals while in Nauvoo. Core cast members will receive a modest honorarium to help offset all other expenses.
