Ward Disability Specialist

The ward disability specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that all youth, including those with disabilities, have a meaningful and inclusive experience at FSY conferences. They work closely with ward leaders to identify and address the needs of participants requiring accommodations.

Timeline of Responsibilities

Every Other Year: Identify Accommodations

  • ASL sessions are held every other year. Ensure that all necessary accommodations are identified and arranged for youth attending that session.

October through May: Familiarize Accessibility Options

  • Be familiar with the accessibility and the virtual options available. See the resources below for both.

March: Pre-FSY Activity Preparation

  • Work with the stake disability specialist to ensure that all accommodation needs are met for the stake pre-FSY activity.

No less than 30 days before a given session: Accommodations Check

  • Work with parents and youth to ensure all necessary accommodations are identified and arranged no less than 30 days before the session.

Following FSY: Post-FSY Activity Preparation

  • Work with the stake disability specialist to ensure that all accommodation needs are met for the stake post-FSY activity.

Who Do I Work With?

Stake Young Women and Young Men Presidents

  • If no stake disability specialist is appointed, ensure stake Young Men and Young Women presidents know you will take on their duties. Assist with registration and accommodations for FSY activities (see Stake Young Women and Stake Young Men Presidents).

Bishopric or Branch Presidency

Ward Young Men and Young Women Leaders

Ward FSY Representative

  • Support them with registration and accommodation questions they might have as they help youth and parents with registration (see Ward FSY Representative).

Stake Disability Specialist

  • Refer to the stake disability specialist with any questions or concerns. Work with them to plan accommodations for the pre- and post-FSY activities (see Stake Disability Specialist).
