Bishopric or Branch Presidency
Bishoprics and branch presidencies play a crucial role in encouraging youth to register for and attend an FSY conference. Your responsibilities begin the fall before your youth attend FSY and include approving youth to attend, working with ward leaders to encourage youth to sign up, recruiting young single adults to work for FSY, and helping youth implement what they learned at FSY in their daily lives.
Please refer to theRegistration Timeline page for definitions of any unfamiliar terminology used on this page.

Timeline of Responsibilities—On-Cycle Units
September–October: Approve Youth
- If your ward is scheduled to attend FSY the following summer, approve your youth to attend FSY using the Participant Approval tool. Please see the
Youth Approval Tool: How-to Guide andRegistration Timeline for helpful information. - Encourage parents and youth to make FSY a priority in their summer plans.
October–January: Encourage Preregistration
- If your ward is on-cycle to attend FSY, work with youth, parents, and other leaders to encourage youth to preregister for an FSY session.
October–March: Recruit Young Single Adults
- Collaborate with the FSY representative to carefully consider and encourage suitable young single adult candidates to apply to work at FSY, prioritizing those who can strengthen and minister to youth. Utilize ministering brothers and sisters, personal interactions, ward activities, or other methods to encourage them. Ensure candidates are aligned with Church teachings and not undergoing a membership council.
January: Preregistration Finalization
- If your ward is on-cycle to attend FSY, work with those who preregistered to finalize their registration or to register for a different session.
February–July: Encourage Youth Registration and Preparation for FSY
- Work with quorum and class presidencies, youth leaders, and ward FSY representatives to encourage unregistered youth to register. Make a special effort to reach out to and invite new members, less-active members, and youth of other faiths.
- Youth may register for a session that has space until 6:00 p.m. the Sunday before the session starts. That is also the deadline for youth to cancel or transfer their registration to another session.
- Encourage youth to attend the stake pre-FSY activity.
- Help youth to understand that FSY is a place where they can have fun, make friends, and get answers to their questions. To help them prepare, encourage them to set goals and come with gospel questions they are seeking answers to.
July–September: Billing Timeframe
- Wards will receive session billing. They come based on which week the youth in your ward attended FSY.
Following FSY: Help Youth “Take It Home”
- Work with the youth to help them implement what they learned into their daily lives—or “take it home,” as we say at FSY.
- Some ideas are:
- Give youth opportunities to share their FSY experience in a sacrament meeting, at ward activities, or in devotionals.
- Follow up with youth on their goals, and encourage them to make new goals as they accomplish existing ones.
- Encourage youth to attend stake post-FSY activities.
Ongoing Responsibilities: Budgets and FSY Callings
- Budget $75 USD or $100 CAD for each youth attending FSY in the ward’s Budget-FSY category. Funding to subsidize any youth who is unable to pay the participant fee should also be held in the ward’s Budget-FSY category. See the
Billing Information page for more information. - Please ensure your ward has an FSY representative called. This person is responsible for supporting the stake Young Women and Young Men presidents in their roles, assisting with FSY registration, and addressing questions from youth and parents about FSY.
- This calling may be given to a member of the bishopric or a ward Young Women or Young Men leader, or it may be given independent of other callings related to the youth. Ward FSY representatives can be entered into Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) by navigating to Organizations, Other Callings, then For the Strength of Youth.
- If sufficient members live within your ward boundaries, please consider calling a ward disability specialist to support youth with disabilities.

Who Do I Work With?
Ward Disability Specialist
- Counsel with this specialist to help youth and parents with FSY accommodation needs.
Ward Young Women and Young Men Leaders
- Work with these leaders to help youth register and prepare for FSY. Especially focus on ministering to and inviting less-active youth to attend.
Ward FSY Representative
- Delegate any FSY-related tasks to this representative. Regularly communicate and plan how to support stake and ward leaders in their FSY responsibilities, how to increase registration percentages, and what promotional efforts Young Men quorum and Young Women class presidencies will make.
Young Single Adult Ward FSY Representative
- If you serve in a young single adult ward, work with your FSY representative to identify those who might be suitable candidates to apply for FSY. Counsel together on additional ways to recruit ward members to work for FSY.
Young Men Quorum and Young Women Class Presidencies
